Confirm the nature of the symptom

Check a few unrelated sites and an app that uses the internet. If nothing works at all, start with the instructions "After connecting Happ, the Internet disappears". If the problem concerns one site, use the material About individual sites.

Write down the exact text of the browser error and the time. It is more useful than the general "DNS not working" message.

Compare without Happ

Disable Happ and reopen the same domains. If the error persists, check the system DNS, router, or current network separately. If everything works without Happ, fix the selected mode and the app entry.

Do not wipe all network data or reset the device until you perform soft checks.

Revert to the last working setting

If you changed the DNS in Happ, the routing profile, or the system just before the problem, revert to the previous value. Save a screenshot of the original state without personal parameters.

Change one level in one test: first Happ, then the system if necessary. Otherwise, it is impossible to understand what action affected the result.

Check Connection Mode

DNS behavior can vary between TUN and system proxy. If the error occurs after switching the mode, return the last working one and reconnect. A detailed comparison will be posted in the instructions on connection modes.

In the release of Happ Desktop 2.18.1, the developers announced an improvement in the reliability of the system proxy so that it works consistently with remote DNS. This is a confirmed change to a specific version, not an explanation of any DNS error.

Compare Other Record and Network

Check another available record without changing the DNS. Then, go back to the original record and compare the second network. The result helps determine whether the symptom is related to a single configuration or a specific network.

Do not publish configuration content or insert a custom link into third-party analyzers.

Clear Only Secure Cache

Close and reopen your browser. Restart the Happ and the device. Clear the system DNS cache only in separate verified actions for a specific OS. Commands from untrusted sources may require administrative privileges and should not be automatically migrated between Windows, macOS, and Linux.

How to check for a fix

  1. Open the same set of sites without Happ.
  2. Connect Happ in the last working mode.
  3. Repeat the check.
  4. Compare another record.
  5. Compare a different network.
  6. Revert the changed parameter to its original state after the test.

If it doesn't help

Prepare the OS and Happ version, connection mode, network, exact error text, and a list of verified domains without authorization parameters. If you're using a log, remove links, keys, and addresses.

For configuration, not diagnostics, there is a separate page "How to configure DNS in Happ". The general procedure for checking the connection is located In the blog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which DNS to install?

There is no universal answer. First, identify the source of the problem and use the settings that are appropriate for the validated network configuration and policy.

Why do some sites open?

This can be related to the cache, an individual domain, or routing. One sign is not enough to conclude.

Will reinstalling Happ help?

Not necessarily. Reinstalling will not fix the DNS of the current network or an erroneous routing rule.
