Close the warning and find the installer in your downloads folder. Do not rename the file or transfer it to other devices before scanning. Write down the exact text and take a screenshot of the system window.
Don't turn off SmartScreen and Microsoft Defender entirely. This workaround reduces protection for all files, not just the installer that is being scanned.
Check the source of the download
The official Happ Desktop repository publishes the Windows installer in the releases section. Use Happ for Windows download page or a link to the current Developer release.
If the file was received from an email, chat, file-sharing service, or an unknown site, delete it and re-download it from a trusted source. Matching the file name does not confirm its authenticity.
Check the version and size
Compare the release version, installer name, and download date. If the Happ Plus page has a size and SHA-256, compare them to the local file. The checksum must match completely, character for character.
If the verification value is not published, do not invent it or use a hash from a third-party message.
Verify your digital signature
Open the file properties and look for the Digital Signatures tab, if present. Check the status of the signature and the publisher information. Missing tab or validation error requires you to stop and receive confirmation from a trusted source.
The editors should check the actual signature of the current installer before publishing screenshots. You cannot specify the publisher name in advance without checking the specific file.
What does SmartScreen mean
According to Microsoft's documentation, SmartScreen evaluates sites and downloads using reputation and other security signals. Therefore, a warning may appear on a little-known or new file, but the decision to run should be made only after checking the source and integrity.
Do not describe the warning as "false" without checking the specific installer.
If the check is successful
Only if the file is obtained from a trusted source, the version matches, the signature is valid, and the published checksum is valid, can the native continuation be considered through the Windows interface. The exact name of the buttons depends on the system version and should be checked on the real screen.
If at least one item does not match, do not run the file. Download it again or contact support.
How to check the result after installation
- Make sure that the expected Happ is installed.
- Check the version in the interface.
- Do not import data until the first successful run.
- Check the security software warnings.
- Then, add your personal information once.
